When should you buy winter tires?

Weather can be unpredictable these days, but generally speaking, a good time to purchase snow tires would be when the daily temperature drops to 10 degrees or lower.

Winter tires are typically a softer tire so they will wear out quicker in warmer weather (above 10 degrees) but the impact is minimal when purchasing during the temperature changing phase of the season.

Typically near the end of October is when a steady flow of customers are purchasing winter tires for their vehicles.

Some people do wait until the first snowfall to replace their all season tires. The result is typically having to wait as much as 2 to 3 weeks to book an appointment due to the high emergency demands.

This is obviously not the ideal situation as you will have to drive in the snowy conditions with non-optimized snow grip tires (which ultimately is the point of getting the tires in the first place).

When should you replace your old tires?

Generally speaking, if you see balding or even metal coming from the tire, that is a sign that you will probably need a replacement immediately.

Our professional and trained staff offer free integrity tire inspection. We will give you a better idea of approximately how much life is left on your tires so you can best plan and prepare.

What can I do to care for my tires?

Visual inspection is always a great place to start. You could do this as often as every time you need to drive somewhere

You could do this as often as every time you need to drive somewhere or at least when you are filling your car with fuel. Simply, walk around your vehicle while quickly visually inspecting your tires for anything out of the ordinary such as:

  • Flat tires
  • Cracks
  • Buldges in the sides
  • Balding
  • Anything else that seems odd

Buy a tire pressure gauge and check your tire air pressure every once in a while or check if you think a tire looks flatter than the others.

Filling your tire is easy from home. Save a $4 fee at the local gas station and instead buy a simple bicycle pump. Hook it up and give your tire as many pumps as necessary (could be just 20-30 pumps).

Remember to fill to the recommended PSI capacity, not more or less.
